*note- Special Bonus after song. The Testors by CHRIS ZIEGLE -The Testors were scuzzy club bottom-feeders, incorrigible sewer-dwelling outsiders, and—possibly—New York’s perfect punk band: too busy to waste time clambering into the history books, too dedicated to bother looking for a label when they could record almost two LPs’ worth of material themselves, and too ferociously talented for anyone then or now to understand. Some of these songs have never been heard before at all; others dribbled out on tough-to-find Euro imports, and almost all of them add up to the best first-wave New York punk band that never made it. Singer-guitarist Sonny Vincent tears past Richard Hell—even Tom Verlaine, maybe even Johnny Thunders—with songs almost too bitter and raw to be so well written. It’s too rare for a real songwriter to fall into punk, for someone to fuse vision with viciousness, but Vincent is up there with the greats: the sad songs are everything Elvis Costello was supposed to be and the mean songs are so caustic, they’d melt paint (no wonder the Testors always looked so messy). Quite simply, the Testors got fucked, they’re one of the rare “lost” bands who are worth the search and this double CD is at least a minor classic. So what if it’s 25 years late? Not one note sounds a second out of date—if this had come out of Detroit last month, you’d already own it. It’s a crime against history that the Testors never got their due: a band like this could and should have changed …

Locate and unscrew the small screws on the battery casing. Lift off the casing to reveal the series of batteries inside.
Copy down the pattern of the battery placement on a piece of paper. This will simplify reassembly. Take note of which ends are soldered together and whether the ends are positively or negatively charged.
Test each battery in line using a battery testor to determine which battery cells are defective. Mark each defective cell with a pen so you can identify which cells within the Dewalt battery need to be repaired.
Detach the battery cells that need repaired from the battery chain. Use the soldering iron to de-solder the connectors or leads between these cells.
Repair your first cell by “zapping” the battery back to life. Place the black alligator clip on the negative end of the battery and the red end onto the positive end of the battery. Hold for no longer than 3 seconds.

What to Paint? The Real Deal On Enamel and Acrylic Paints

Beginning arts and crafts enthusiasts often have a hard time deciphering what kinds of paints work best when working with wood, glass, and other kinds of surfaces. The results of a wrong choice can often lead to frustration, disappointments, and even expensive setbacks in completing the project on-time and on-budget.

There are important differences between enamel and acrylic paints, including their chemical composition and also the types of surfaces that best accept their pigments and adherence, or “stickyness.” Knowing which ones to buy for which projects will help you avoid trouble both during the project’s execution and especially once it’s completed.

Acrylic paint is water based

Acrylic paints are water-based, meaning they are essentially water with concentrations of a certain color’s pigment. As the water evaporates, the pigment adheres to the painting surface.

Acrylic paints work best with relatively non-porous surfaces such as plastic and wood. It’s also ideal when working on a project with children: its water base allows for easy clean up and removal with ordinary hot water and soap.

Primer goes on before acrylics

Acrylics almost always work best when the paint surface is prepared with one or more coats of primer. Primer is relatively cheap, typically available in white and gray shades, and can be found with the spray paint in both craft and hardware stores. Using darker color primer will give the acrylic paint coated atop it a darker hue, while white primer will give the paints a slightly brighter hue.

The right kind of Acrylic paint brands

There are four main brands of acrylic paint sold in crafts stores such as Michael’s, Hobby Lobby, and A.C. Moore. These brands are Americana, Apple Barrel, Folk Art, and Delta Ceramcoat. Americana paints have probably the widest selection of colors, and their range of reds, browns, and yellows are the best in the industry. Ceramcoat has the best blues and greens, while Folk Art’s slightly cheaper shelf price provides quality, especially with its broad line of metallic-finish enamel paints. Apple Barrel provides several hues of blue, red, and earth tones that the other lines do not.

Enamel paint is oil-based, sturdier, more tempermental

Enamel paint has oil as its main ingredient, typical of the kinds of paint used in fine arts painting and model-making alike. Enamel is more durable than acrylic paint, meaning it won’t as easily chip or flake off. However, that virtue is also its greatest flaw.

Enamel paint works best with canvas and ceramic mediums, especially if treated with a glazing agent or sealant after the painting is completed. Enamel paint used on plastic sometimes never completely dries, remaining sticky to the touch long after the project’s completion.

Painters working with enamel must use paint thinner (turpentine) to remove the paint from their skin and clothing. Finally, most brands of commercial nail polish are in fact the same kinds of enamel paints sold in hobby and craft stores.

Testors enamel paints are available in the model kit sections of most craft stores, as well as other brands in the fine arts sections. Prices vary, but enamel is typically more expensive per unit than acrylic.

Sealing acrylic paints

Hobbyists recommend using a fixatif, or sealant, to protect acrylic paints. The most popular brand, Testor’s Dull-Cote, gives a matte finish and can be found in the model kit section near (ironically) the enamel paints.

Monogram Models Quality vs Others

Most important airplane model kits producers today are companies like Revell-Monogram, Italeri, Airfix-Heller, Testors, Minicraft and others.

40-50 years ago Revell and Monogram where main competitors that were both producing airplane models. However in 1986 both companies have been acquired by Odyssey Partners of New York and were merged together. In 2006 German subsidiary separated from Revell-Monogram and established a new company with revenues even slightly surpassing the ones of the parental company. In 2007 Hobicco Inc. announced acquisition of Monogram-Revell LCC. Some of the new models of Revell from Germany are known for its high quality but still not same as that of Monogram models since today Monogram brand is used for high quality models line called Pro Modeller Kits.

Remaining eminent model manufacturers are listed in the article bellow.

Italeri is Italian producer of various plastic model kits. Overall impression of Italeri model kits is that they are representing mid range quality, but to note is that their newer kits are constantly improving. Nevertheless Monogram models are better ranged in quality then Italeri.

Airfix is large British plastic kits producer which was founded in 1939 and owned by Humbrol as of 1986 until 2006 and is today owned by Hornby. As for quality it is in higher middle range trying to benchmark Revell of Germany but still not reaching professional quality standard of Monogram models.

Heller is French based kits manufacturer which was founded in 1957 and was part of the same group together with Airfix since 1986. In 2005, Heller was the subject of a management buy-out but the following year the company went into administration. For many years Airfix models were produced in France alongside with Heller models which mean that they are of the similar quality as Airfix and inline with Revell line of Revell-Monogram company.

Minicraft Models is manufacturer of plastic kits based in Illinois, USA. Although Minicraft on some editions has a quite bad reputation for poor molding, bad fit and a bad correlation with the original they have started to improve with their latest molds. On the other hand Minicraft decal sheets are of exquisite quality. Overall Revell quality is higher while Monogram models represent a quality benchmark.

Testor was founded in 1929 and started producing hobbyist model cement in 1936 and in 1945 it started balsa models production. During 70′s Testor has added to its portfolio brands like IMC and Italeri. It is a manufacturer with long standing tradition and high quality image but is ranged slightly bellow Monogram which is positioned as a top quality line.

Overall we can say that airplane models quality, due to improved molds tooling, has been constantly improving, but even so, Monogram models have remained synonym for high quality models.
